The Joy of Dyeing Episode 4

Winter Mist

We begin our journey with Winter Mist, a painting that portrays the most quiet, subtle winter scene. At first glance, you might think that the painting is entirely black, white, and shades of gray. But upon closer inspection, an array of cool toned sage greens, slate blues, and delicate lilacs glazed with gray shading reveal themselves.

Not Quite Spring

The next step in our journey takes us to the precipice of Spring - but we're not quite there yet. Color is peeking through what was once a rich, winter landscape. Snow still glazes part of the mountains, but there are signs of life emerging all around.

Not Quite Spring is a blend of cool, deep blues, rich forest green, clay gray, olive leaning greens and browns, and the gentlest touch of a seafoam green. Altogether, this variegated is the most colorfully intricate colorway I've ever created. It's impossible to illustrate the full range of colors that live on the skein in just one photo.

Blue Ridge Falls

Meet Blue Ridge Falls, our third painting inspired colorway in episode 4! This colorway is composed of bright, seafoam greens, teals and aquamarine, followed by touches of rich emerald and sky blue and, lastly, a final layer of deep turquoise darkened by a forest green.

Evening at the Falls

Layers of topaz, navy, indigo and midnight blues, forest green, and teal play with one another, weaving a rich, deep tapestry of color on the yarn. Pops of light dance across the colorway, illustrating the illusion of the moonlight's illumination presented in the inspiration painting!
